The Tony Whiting Canterbury Open 2023

The club will be hosting The Tony Whiting Canterbury Open 2023 this weekend from the 11th to the 13th of August 2023.   We have a staggering 115 players taking part across all the grades (A to F) including a number of world-ranked professionals in the A Grade event, with the top 8 players being ranked in Top 20 in England!   The top 8 players taking part in the A Grade are below: For those who would like to come up and watch and support, the draws and schedules can be found below.   There will be hot food available throughout the weekend and menus can be found around the club on the day. The Canterbury Ladies Open 2023

The club will be hosting The Canterbury Ladies Open 2023 this weekend on Saturday and Sunday (8th/9th July 2023)     We have 40 ladies taking part across all the grades (A to F) including a handful of world ranked professionals in the 8 Player A Grade event.   The players taking part in the A Grade are below: For those who would like to come up and watch and support, the draws and schedules can be found below.   There will be hot food available throughout the weekend and menus can be found around the club on the day. Upcoming Events 1) The Canterbury Ladies Open 2022 – 23rd/24th Jul 2022 More details at: www.cmstringers.com/clo22 The club will be hosting the very first ladies-only graded tournament,  The Canterbury Ladies Open 2022 on Saturday and Sunday the 23rd/24th of July 2022. The event is a first-time trial event and is open to ladies of all standards! as there are multiple categories from A (Pro) to E Grade (Beginners). The top two ladies in the A Grade are ranked in the top 60 in the world so there will be some great squash on display! Entries are still open at www.cmstringers.com/clo22 and close on Sunday Night (17th July 2022) for anyone who is interested in taking part in this unique event! Tony Whiting

Tony Whiting Dear Members,   It is with immense sadness that I inform you of the passing of Tony Whiting. He died peacefully on the 25th of  May 2022 in the Pilgrims Hospice in Canterbury. He had been a member for over 45 years and served on the committee for 43 of those years. He carried out several roles over his time on the committee, including Bar Chairman, Maintenance Chairman, and lastly Club President. He helped organise and promote many social gatherings at the club, which increased the appeal and helped attract new members. He played for 2nd and later 3rd teams for many years and always enjoyed playing, meeting, and socialising with the squash community. He ensured the 50th Anniversary of the club was a great success and was still playing into his 80s. He has been a key figure in the negotiations with St Edmunds school and the developers

The Danny Gamble Squash Open 2022 The Danny Gamble Squash Open 2022 – 26th Apr – 1st May 2022 More details and online entry at: www.cmstringers.com/dg22 The club will be hosting The Danny Gamble Squash Open 2022 open tournament from the 28th of April to the 1st of May 2022. The event is the longest-running tournament at the club and has been running since May 2005 to commemorate club member, Danny Gamble, who sadly died of Cancer in 2004. This year’s event will be a combined Singles, Doubles, and Mixed doubles event with the Singles event also registered as a PSA Satellite event which will feature a number of up and coming pro players as well as a mixture of club players. Latest Updates: February 2022 1) Club Night – 7th Feb 2022 We are pleased to announce that club night is back again this month (Monday 4th Oct 2021) from 7:20pm to 10pm.    For those new to club night, we run it on the first Monday of every month from 7:20pm onwards.    For club night, we have all four courts booked out and players of various standards play each other in 15-minute time slots before rotating over. This is a great way to meet players of similar standards and to establish playing contacts of the club, especially if you are a new member.    Club night is free of charge and is also open to non-members and guests as well 🙂 2) The Fines Cup VIII – Doomsday – 26th Feb 2022 More details at: www.cmstringers.com/fc8 The club will be hosting The Fines Cup VIII – Doomsday Graded tournament on Saturday
