The club will be hosting the very first ladies-only graded tournament, The Canterbury Ladies Open 2022 on Saturday and Sunday the 23rd/24th of July 2022. The event is a first-time trial event and is open to ladies of all standards! as there are multiple categories from A (Pro) to E Grade (Beginners). The top two ladies in the A Grade are ranked in the top 60 in the world so there will be some great squash on display!
Entries are still open at www.cmstringers.com/clo22 and close on Sunday Night (17th July 2022) for anyone who is interested in taking part in this unique event!
The A to C Grades will be held on Saturday and Sunday and the D and E Grades will be held on Sunday. The entry fee for this event also includes a Canterbury Ladies Open performance t-shirt.
For those who haven’t played before, these graded events are a great way to pit yourselves against players of similar standard in a competitive environment as well as being able to play a variety of different players 🙂 All the events also count towards your SquashLevels profile so they are also a good way to improve your SL score as well! Generally, these events are suitable for players between 0 and 9000 on SquashLevels.
Tournaments are typically held over a Saturday (all day) or a weekend with a presentation and social in the evening.

The TW Canterbury Open 2022 is back again after a 3-year absence and will be held on the 19th – 21st of August 2022!
The 2019 edition saw World No. 11, Joel Makin of Wales beat World No. 17, Adrian Waller of England by three games to one to retain his title! The event was supported by 109 players taking part across all the grades, making the tournament the largest graded tournament in the country! The entries consisted of all standards of players from beginners and younger juniors in the E grade all the way up to the top 20 world ranked players playing in the A Grade!
This year we have decided to rename the event to The TW Canterbury Open 2022 in commemoration to Tony Whiting, who sadly passed away recently and was a big supporter of this event and always made it a point to come up over the weekend to watch the top players in action and as you know, did a great deal for the club as well. We have moved the event to August to suit the availability of the top players and the level of prize money we are offering for this year’s event is a record prize fund for a club-graded tournament, which allows us to draw in some big names from the top 30 players in the squash world to mingle with us normal club players! We hope to do something special in this year’s event for Tony and the Whiting family have confirmed they will be on hand to present the prizes to the winners this year.
We hope to make this year’s edition our biggest one yet as a tribute to Tony so do get involved and watch some great squash as well!
